Common Application Process
In 2009/10 all young people in Year 11 will be able to access the CAP.
The following schools and colleges will be able to receive applications through the CAP:
The Henley College
Abingdon and Witney College
Gosford Hill School
Bartholomew School
The Marlborough School
Didcot Sixth Form College
Abingdon 14-19
Matthew Arnold School
The Common Application Process is a single system (linked to the Area Wide Prospectus), which allows young people in Oxfordshire to apply for post 16 education online. In 2008-9 young people in South East Oxfordshire, Didcot and Abingdon are using this process to make their applications to The Henley College, Didcot Sixth Form College and The Abingdon Consortium.
The purpose of the CAP is:
-
A Common Application Process is designed to provide a single point through which young people can make their applications to any learning opportunity.
-
CAP makes it easier for learners to find out about and apply for courses.
-
CAP makes it easier for Connexions and the LA to monitor the September Guarantee to ensure all young people have an appropriate offer of post 16 learning
-
CAP can make post 16 admissions more efficient for providers
-
CAP is part of the DCSF’s 14-19 strategy to raise participation and achievement. It is an aspiration that Year 11 learners will be using CAP in 2010 and an expectation they will do so in 2011. It is expected that 14 Year olds will be using CAP by 2013
The DCSF "Next Steps" document anticipates all areas having a CAP by 2010 for courses that start in 2011 - this is reflected in the Oxfordshire Entitlement statement, which forms part of the Oxfordshire 14-19 Education Plan.
The evaluation of the CAP trial which took place in Oxfordshire in 2008/9 can be downloaded from here: CAP Evaluation Report
