Oxfordshire IAG Tools
The Purpose of the Online IAG Tools
The DCSF published its Action Plan for the AWP and CAP in April 2009.
As the 14-19 framework is introduced the qualifications that young people are able to choose will begin to look very different.
As well as traditional routes through GCSE and A level young people will have an entitlement to study any of 17 diploma lines, take an apprenticeship or choose courses from the Foundation Learning Tier.
It will be increasingly important that young people receive high quality impartial and objective information, advice and guidance. This duty is stated in the Education Bill currently progressing through Parliament.
To help this process three online tools are available to young people in Oxfordshire:
The Area Wide Prospectus
This can be accesed at: www.oxfordshireprospectus.com
This lists all courses available to young people making their Key Stage 4 or post 16 choices. There are also links from this site to other areas. Courses listed her will include diplomas and offers by consortia.
The courses are searchable so that young people can find all the courses that are available in one place.
Courses can be saved into "my courses" a kind of favourites area.
Events and Open Days can also be viewed thorugh this site.
The Common Application Process
The Application Process allows young people to apply online from the prospectus. This means that young people's applications can be tracked and supported. The outcome of this will be that we can ensure that all young people are being offered places on appropriate courses (The September Guarantee).
It also makes it easier for young people to make applications and to manage those applications through the website.
In 2008/9 young people in South East Oxon, Didcot and Abingdon wil be using this process to make their post 16 choices, in 2009/10 the process will be available throughout Oxfordshire.
Individual Learning Plan
Planit - the ILP used by Oxfordshire - allows young people to gather information about themselves, explore career opportunties, plan for the future and build up their CV.
This means that when it comes to choices of courses they are better informed and able to place their choices in the context of their own career planning.
The ILP can be used from Key Stage 3 onwards and can be used as part of a PSHEE programme, a careers or work based learning programme or by Tutors and Connexions PAs.
The ILP belongs to the student, but the professionals working alongside the student have access to the information to support them.
All of the above tools are provided free to schools in Oxfordshire in 2008/9. There is also a support programme available free. Details can be seen on the relevant pages of this website or downloaded from here
